How Enerchi works

Your luck reading comes from two old systems, calculated the same way every time, on your own device.

In one line: your birth chart (BaZi) says what kind of energy you were born with; feng shui and the almanac say what kind of energy today has; Enerchi shows how well they fit, as a score you can see inside out.

Your birth chart (BaZi, "Four Pillars")

From your birth date, time and place we work out four pairs of Chinese characters (year, month, day, hour), your Four Pillars. The day pillar's first character is your Day Master: the element you were born as (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water, each Yang or Yin). We use your birthplace's time zone, adjust the hour to true solar time from your longitude, and start each month at the exact solar term, not on the 1st. Source: Yuan Hai Zi Ping.

The five elements and your useful elements

Each element can be strong or weak in your chart. The elements that balance it are your useful elements, and their colours, numbers and directions are your lucky ones. Rules are written down in public JSON files, so nothing is a black box.

Today's energy (the almanac)

Each day has its own pair of characters and a Day Officer (one of twelve, such as "Establish" or "Open") from the Chinese almanac Tong Shu. We compare today with your chart: does it feed your useful elements, does it clash with your birth animal, which helpful-people, charm, travel or study stars wake up.

Feng shui: directions and Flying Stars

Your Kua number (Eight Mansions, Ba Zhai) gives you four lucky and four slow directions. Flying Stars (Xuan Kong) move around a nine-square grid every year, month and day, showing which corner of a home is lively this year. Your Lucky corner is where the year's 8 or 9 star meets your best direction.

The Luck score, step by step

The score is 0 to 100 and is built from named parts, each with points and a one-line reason: element fit, the theme of the day against your Day Master, the Day Officer, harmony or clash with your birth branches, your current Luck Pillar and year, lucky stars, and the day's Flying Star. No randomness: the same input gives the same result on every device.

Why a little belief may help (the luck science)

We don't claim feng shui is proven. We do use ideas that research on everyday luck supports, and say plainly where results are mixed:

Richard Wiseman's The Luck Factor (2003) found that people who think of themselves as lucky tend to notice more chance opportunities. That's why Enerchi asks you to spot one lucky moment a day.
Peter Gollwitzer (1999) showed that "When X happens, I will do Y" plans make people far more likely to follow through. Your Luck ritual is always phrased that way.
Damisch, Stoberock and Mussweiler (2010) found that lucky charms can raise confidence and persistence. Later replications are mixed, so we treat your lucky colour or number as a confidence cue, not magic.

So the honest promise is small and real: pay attention, take one tiny action, notice what happens. Enerchi doesn't predict outcomes.
